FARMER'S BUDDY - DASHBOARD

Inspiration

We were inspired by some family we know that recently transitioned to farming from senior tech position. They're good at reading dashboards and interacting with chatbots, but lack farming knowledge. We wanted to build a platform that helped them take their first steps to understand crops and their lifecycles.

What it does

Farmer's buddy is a dashboard that helps new farmers get information on crop predictions based on current weather conditions, location and potential pests. It also uses openai to dynamically help predict which crop will be best suitable based on users input and also tracks number of crops planted and harvested by farmer.

How we built it

We used flask framework for website, html/cc/js for frontend. We store data in mongodb database. For chatbot and crop predictions, we used openai api.

Challenges we ran into

In the ideation phase, deciding on the project and features to add was challenging because we had to create a working application with all our ideas in the given time . Implementing the technologies like openai application was a new learning which helped us make our application more user friendly. Fixing the bugs we faced during our development process was challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Accomplishments we are proud of are that we were able to go from knowing next to nothing about building a full stack web application to having a simple but powerful website up and running. We're also proud of our design thinking and ideation process. I liked how my team kept it dynamic and incorporated input and suggestions from the panel. For example, we borrowed the idea from the "Microsoft" panel to add a chatbot feature into our website. We did a lot of things that we'd never done before, and I think that makes us feel very accomplished. We'd love to win the prize, but the biggest prize for us was the knowledge and experience we gained along the way.

What we learned

Integration of open AI technology with the application. Learnt and worked on technologies like flask, bootstrap, mongodb. Team work and brainstorming session about project ideas.
