Inspiration
The theme for the hackathon was water, which reminded us of droughts and problems that farmers have with a lack of water/precipitation. Inspired, we built this app to help farmers make these decisions without risking too much.
What it does
The app provides the user with information about the weather and the precipitation levels. It also gives the user a recommendation based on these values. It also gives the user alerts based on the location that they are currently at.
How we built it
We built this project in repl.it and utilized HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript for the actual website. We used GitHub to store our code. Bootstrap was our main source for HTML edits.
Challenges we ran into
Many of the challenges came up in the JavaScript portion when we were trying to access values from the API. After a lot of debugging (and googling!), we were able to fix the issue.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of getting the JavaScript working and making the API connection to the HTML seamless.
What we learned
We learned a lot about accessing API's using JavaScript and implementing them into a website using HTML.
What's next for Farmer Companion App
This app could be heavily expanded on to give the user access to more information. It could also use more logic to make better predictions.
