Inspiration
Farmers often struggle to get fair prices due to middlemen, while customers pay high prices for the same products. We were inspired to bridge this gap by creating a platform where farmers can directly connect with consumers, ensuring fairness, transparency, and freshness.
What it does
FarmDirect is a mobile/web application that allows farmers to list their fresh produce and sell directly to customers. Customers can browse products, compare prices, place orders, and get farm-fresh goods delivered to their doorstep. The app eliminates intermediaries, benefiting both farmers and buyers.
How we built it
We built the app using a user-friendly frontend for both farmers and customers, integrated with a backend system to manage product listings, orders, and user data. Technologies like databases, APIs, and secure payment gateways were used to ensure smooth transactions and real-time updates.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was designing an interface simple enough for farmers with limited technical knowledge. We also faced difficulties in managing real-time inventory, logistics coordination, and ensuring secure and reliable payment processing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a platform that empowers farmers to earn better profits while providing customers with fresh and affordable produce. The app promotes transparency, reduces dependency on middlemen, and supports local agriculture.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned the importance of user-centered design, especially for non-technical users. We also gained experience in full-stack development, problem-solving, and understanding real-world challenges in agriculture and supply chains.
What's next for FarmDirect
We plan to enhance the app by adding features like real-time delivery tracking, AI-based price suggestions, multilingual support for farmers, and expanding the platform to include more regions and product categories.
