Inspiration

Initially, we brainstormed methods to help the community around us. Our team wanted to create a program to get local produce at a cheaper price with ease. In order to help local farmers, and reduce food waste.

What it does

It connects local farmers, selling produce, to consumers in the area, and gives farmers control over their profits and advertising.

How we built it

We built the app design prototype through Figma and laid out the structure. We created a backend for utilizing API endpoints using Node.js. For Data Modeling and Database Implementation, we utilized Firebase. For creating a Front End UI, we utilized React.js.

Challenges we ran into

We initially had a challenging time writing the codes and had to write the schema a few times. To tackle this challenge our lead coder sought help from Hackathon Mentors. This led to us having to rewrite the code a few times. We also ran into some time constraints due to only having a 24-hour window. We wish we had more time to develop this idea but are proud of the hard work we put in.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the idea we created and for keeping high team morale. We all came from different backgrounds but worked together to create a solid team to create an innovative idea. Although we had challenges we kept persevering and working together to find solutions. We accomplished creating this idea to help the local community find ways to reduce food waste for social good.

What we learned

We learned that proper progress of the project should have a time plan, and stick to the bare minimum when coding, but elevating if there is extra time. We created this plan by scaling our project. We took a large-scale problem and scaled it down to problems that we could solve. We also attended events and workshops about coding and AI as a team which further helped us expand our knowledge.

What's next for Farm Market

Farm Market could expand across the country. In order to create more access, more research on local areas should be conducted on the crops grown in that area. This would require further funding and product development.
