Challenge
We are addressing the second challenge under greentech category which states "Extreme hunger and malnutrition remain a huge barrier to development in many countries. There are 821 million people estimated to be chronically undernourished as of 2017, often as a direct consequence of environmental degradation, drought and biodiversity loss. Your challenge is to come up with solutions that promote sustainable agriculture, eradicate hunger and malnutrition, improve agricultural productivity and access to markets." Our project is hardware based and software based.
Inspiration
Most Farmers especially in Africa do plant out of lack of some basic information, information relating to crops, soil and weather. Due to the change in weather and climate, the knowledge of the ‘80s now stands obsolete in Agriculture of the present age. One often see farmers planting maize on a soil in which groundnut would have be the best. Therefore, bringing out a solution inform of a device to address this problem will aid Agricultural productivity and will also go along with the number nineth Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) : “Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”.
What it does
An IoT device that uses sensors to analyze a soil sample and give out crop and enhancement recommendations of the farmland ➢ An IoT Device that can get a particular crop as input and recommend the best soil good for it or recommend what can be done to the available soil to make it suitable for the crop. ➢ An IoT device that can notify farmers whenever there is need for irrigation or drainage by matching crop, water level, water required by crop and soil water holding capacity together (AI based). ➢ The device will serve as a way of collecting Agricultural data which can be used in creating future analysis or AI and ML Model. ➢ An IoT device which can be connected to other actuators in the farm to automate some Agricultural practices like irrigation, watering, drainage etc.
How I built it
Firstly we created an azure storage account, containers and blob to enable the team work together and easily have access to the project files real time.
The solution is aimed at harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to provide a recommendation system to farmers, recommending the best crops or best soil that will provide maximum yield on a soil or crop respectively. ➢ The solution is aimed to harness the power of IoT to help farmers increase productivity. ➢ We aim to provide farmers an easy and affordable way of carrying out soil analysis before planting. ➢ The solution will serve as a way of gathering agricultural data which can be use in future models.

A working project
What I learned
IoT devices
What's next for FPA
Making it AI and IoT based. We'll want to use azure IoT service to receive the Data from the device, other services from azure such as the machine learning and databases can then be use to process the Data for further and better prediction. The device can also be use in gathering related agricultural data.
