Inspiration

The inspiration comes from Stardew Valley and Plague Inc.

What it does

Farm under Pandemic is a farming simulation game primarily inspired by Stardew Valley and Plague Inc. The player will become a farmer and a resident of a small town, where he/she will try to harvest as much as possible while avoiding getting covid.

How we built it

We build this game using Javascript, Phaser 3, HTML, Node.js and Tiled.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we ran into is adding animation and creating tilemap without any prior experience. We have spent half of the time turning the spritesheets into animation and making the character cute and vivid, along with using different tilesets and multiple layers of tilemaps to construct a vivid farm.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Before Athenahack we haven't done anything related to Canvas and WebGL, however, within this 24 hours of hackathon, we learned all these completely from scratch and finally made a playable game, which includes a world involving different areas, movable characters, and real physics system.

What we learned

One thing we learned from Athenahack is learning our limits but push ourselves a notch. Before actually starting to code, we already knew that we couldn't not have the chance to implement everything in our head and even may not have a playable demo since our idea on the game is very ambitious. However, we do hold the belief that we can make something great and try our best to go beyond our own set expectations.

What's next for Farm under pandemic

For the next step, we are going to allow the player to be able to do the actual farming, along with having more interactions with other residents in the village. We are also planning to edit the character animation so that he/she will have option to wear a mask or not after walking out from home, which will have different consequences.
