Inspiration
I built this app to help beginner farmers who struggle with where to start what crops to plant, how much seed to buy, and when to weed, water, or harvest. Many fail not because of lack of effort, but because they don’t have clear, step-by-step guidance. We wanted to build a tool that acts like a simple farming coach in your pocket, helping anyone from a backyard gardener to a smallholder succeed in their first farming venture.
What it does
Farm Plan Pro is a beginner-friendly farming assistant. A farmer enters their land size, crop choice, and location. The app generates a personalized farming plan with a week-by-week timeline from planting to harvest. It calculates input requirements (like seeds and fertilizer), cost estimates, and expected yield. Farmers get notifications and reminders at key stages (e.g., “It’s time to weed your potatoes”). Each task comes with simple instructions, common mistakes to avoid, and low-cost tips so beginners can follow along easily.
How we built it
The project was built with node js for frontend and python for backend.
Challenges we ran into
Simplifying complex farming knowledge into beginner-friendly, clear, and actionable steps without jargon
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a working MVP in just one week that turns farming into a structured, guided experience. Created a solution that is globally adaptable useful for a backyard gardener in Europe, a smallholder farmer in Africa, or a student project in Asia. Made farming less intimidating for beginners, breaking down the process into manageable weekly steps.
What's next for Farm Plan Pro
Expanding the crop database to cover more regions and staple crops. Adding AI-powered pest and disease detection using photo uploads.
