Inspiration

More than 400 tons of waste go to Landfill per year from Toronto alone (Goal 12) The leakage of labor from agriculture is a significant problem in Canada, with serious consequences for the sector's profitability, productivity, and global competitiveness. This shortage is not just about filling vacancies; it represents a potential crisis that threatens the entire agri-food chain. (Goal 11)

What it does

Farm Connect allows schools to expose their students to the foundational levels of production to reduce their waste as consumers in the future by recognizing all the variables that go into the production of the products they use on daily basis

How we built it

Utilizing JavaScript HTML/CSS, and Leaflet.js we created a web app.

Challenges we ran into

Lots of debugging errors throughout the code for marking the farms on map with limited data. Also when implementing donating method using a specific type of paying method such as apple pay or debit/credit card options.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Created a web app with promotes sustainable tourism and regional resilience, encourages informed purchasing decisions. As well as supports value-based consumption through education.

What we learned

Constructing a web app using AI tools and debugging in a systemic manner. Also how crucial it is to promote the agriculture sector to sustain the future of facilities, specialty knowledge and domestic supply chains. This provides a reinforcement of Canadian market, maybe not instantaneous but long lasting.

What's next for Farm Connect

Try implementing a tracking system for reduces consumer detachment that often leads to overbuying and waste.
