Inspiration
Managing shared expenses with friends often leads to confusion and unfair equal splits. We wanted to create a simple solution where everyone pays only for what they actually owe.
What it does
FairPay helps users create groups, add expenses, calculate each member's exact share, track pending payments, and manage settlements with ease.
How we built it
We built FairPay using Django, Python, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and SQLite. The application uses Django models, views, templates, and authentication to manage users, groups, expenses, and payment tracking.
Challenges we ran into
- Designing accurate expense-splitting logic.
- Tracking who owes whom.
- Managing database relationships and Django migrations.
- Building a clean and user-friendly interface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Developed a working full-stack web application.
- Implemented fair expense calculation and settlement tracking.
- Created an intuitive dashboard for managing groups and expenses.
What we learned
We gained hands-on experience with Django, database design, authentication, debugging, and full-stack web development while improving our problem-solving and teamwork skills.
What's next for FairPay
- UPI payment integration.
- Split by individual items.
- Expense analytics and reports.
- Mobile app and real-time notifications.
- AI-powered spending insights.
