Inspiration

Constellation brands is at the forefront of providing sponsorships for events that bring people together like sports. We wanted to build a product that would be in line with their values and thus decided to build an app that would engage the part of the UFC/MMA community that enjoys beers by not only rewarding the users but also engaging them in the sport. We wanted Modelo to be a part of every UFCfan's life and allow them to engage in the lives of the fighters and the sport themselves and by way of the fantasy UFC. Our goal is to tie experiences together and build a community centered around MMA and Modelo.

What it does

The idea has the following steps:

  1. A UFC fan buys the Mystery-UFC-Flavoured Modelo which has no flavor written on it. Once bought, they will be able to scan the QR code on the packaging of the bottle using the Fantasy UFC mobile app.
  2. On scanning, the user will unlock a UFC athlete and an AR model of the same. When this UFC athlete wins matches in the real world, the user will get points which they can then redeem to get discounts/free Constellation Brands beverages.
  3. This will not only help these MMA fans enjoy the sport in a completely new way but will also incentivize them to get more Modelo beer. Thus, on account of the self-perpetuating cycle, the business model is also sustainable.

How we built it

The app was built using Flutter, Firebase Cloud Firestore, and Unity for the AR model of the UFC fighter.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was the integration of the AR part with the app and coming up with a business model that would sustain itself.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that not only is the app idea creative but also has the backing of a strong business model.

What we learned

We've learned that it is important for an MVP to not only have an innovative idea but also a strong business logic behind it.

What's next for Fantasy UFC

The next step would be to build monthly, weekly, yearly, leaderboards of people whose rosters are performing well.
