Inspiration

I was part of a blockchain startup a few years ago and creating Dapps seemed so far from where I could be. I had returned to the TV series 'Mr Robot' and felt inspired to get into coding. After hearing about the coming of ETH 2.0 I wanted to run a node but quickly realized that would cost $100k. I don't have much money so I figured instead of buying and selling I could build something in the space. I dug into podcasts and I heard about some of the streaming services that have launched. Their focus was on squeezing more out of streaming revenue for artists. The real pain point for musicians is startup capital. They often give up large percentages of their intellectual property for cash advances.

What it does

FanSociety will be a place to discover emerging musicians and fund them while they're still small time and prevent them from becoming another VH1 where are they now? There are aspects of traditional fan clubs, betting, NFT investing, and social currency (what kinda shoes you wearing?)

How we built it

These are my first couple of months in Solidity and all of the current dev tools and resources. Have been using both Brownie and Hardhat for local development environments and deployment. Built the frontend in Webflow utilizing their CMS features to manage growing database. Using web3.js

Challenges we ran into

The learning curve is steep as a new developer in the space. Trying to learn the full stack in two months was very trying. There were moments when I knew I didn't know anything, then moments when I felt like I was grasping the concepts fairly well, and then back to not knowing what the hell was going on. It was a rollercoaster.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Made LOTS of mistakes which is great. And walking away with a broad knowledge of the space and confidence to continue to be a part of the developer community

What we learned

So much of the code is borrowed and reused over and over again. The building space becomes a game of how you put different components together to do something new. There is a TON of support and resources in the space and so much of it is open source. Funding is pouring in and I love the company's purpose and potential impact.

What's next for FanSociety

Going to keep building the project up and testing functionality that I didn't get to. In the next 100 days I'm hoping to actually launch it. The goal is to have people see NFTs as more than artwork but that they can also have utility and that they can be stitched into our lives.
