Inspiration

Fanntal was born out of a common everyday frustration: finding reliable, skilled local service professionals (such as electricians, plumbers, and technicians) shouldn't feel like a gamble. Many talented local experts struggle to reach a wider audience, while clients spend hours searching for dependable help through word-of-mouth. We wanted to build a centralized, trustworthy bridge that empowers local service providers with digital visibility while giving clients a seamless way to hire vetted experts.

What it does

Fanntal operates as a hybrid social-professional mobile and web application that connects skilled tradespeople—such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and handymen—with clients who require their services. It merges a social feed, a jobs board, real-time messaging, rich worker profiles, and an intelligent notification system into a single platform.

How we built it

Fanntal is engineered with a Flutter (Dart) cross-platform frontend supporting Android, iOS, and Web PWA. The backend relies on Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, Realtime, and Edge Functions) alongside ImageKit for optimized media transformations and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for push notifications. The app utilizes the Flutter BLoC pattern for clean state management and GoRouter for declarative navigation.

Challenges we ran into

Designing a seamless real-time messaging and matching system that remains performant under variable network conditions presented a significant hurdle. We addressed this by implementing robust local caching, optimized database queries with Row Level Security (RLS) policies, and precise state management via BLoC.

What we learned

Building Fanntal pushed us to refine our full-stack architecture and mobile-first approach. We deepened our expertise in optimizing real-time database structures, handling secure user authentication, and designing an intuitive, low-friction user interface that caters to both service providers and everyday consumers.
