Inspiration

We realize that:

  • There are very limited monetization methods for derivative works
  • IP owners have one problem in common that is copyright claims
  • For users there is no practical way to discover derivative works easily

So we built a platform to help address those problems:

What it does

It's a decentralized IP derivative NFT platform:

  • It helps both the IP owner and creators to monetize derivative works as NFTs via royalty sharing.
  • It curates all official approved derivative collections for user to discover and for IP owner to advocate.

How we built it

We mainly utilize the EIP2981 - NFT Royalty Standard realize on-chain royalty distribution with customised ratios. While keeping such a hierachy: IP Space -> Derivative collections in the smart contract level. The technical stacks includes:

  • Solidity
  • React
  • Node.js
  • Next.js
  • SubGraph
  • IPFS

Challenges we ran into

We just launched the project on August, time are very limited. And our frontend dropped out in the last weekend before submission while there are still tons of work to finish. So we were trying very hard to find a helping hand while educate ourselves - with very limited experience with frontend. And thanks to god we finally made the demo functiionable at the last minute before submission.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The product itself! We are NFT degens and creators and we really looking forward to having such a product for IP owner and derivative creators. Now we had the chance to build it by our own!

What we learned

It's really a frultful journey to witness a project from a spark of thought to a functional product. We learned a lot such as how to find a niche market, find people with the same belief to work with, and until the final delivery. And of course there are tons of space for us to improve, we'll definitely become better and better..

What's next for FanMake

We will improve the data strucutres and integrate with some stream payment protocol to support more marketplaces such as OpenSea and also unlock the capability for multi-layer royalty structure such that IP collaboration and even further derivative creation can be realized. Also more creator-friendly features such as lazy minting, batch uploading, existing collection migration and automatic space onboarding process will be rolled out gradually. We wish FanMake can become the leading IP ecosystem marketplace in the future!
