Inspiration
I always wanted to learn in a fun and engaging way, so the idea for this app came naturally.
What it does
This app takes two inputs: the name of the fandom the user is a part of and the tech skill that they want to work on. Then, it generates a fun coding lesson using references from the fandom given as input.
How we built it
I built this app in a very simple way: I used the App builder on partyrock.aws and entered the following prompt: The user inputs their fandom and the desired tech skill they want to work on, and the app generates code that teaches them that tech skill including fandom references. For example: "I am a Harry Potter fan and I want to work on my SQL skills" -> write some SQL code about the four houses at Hogwarts and make a sample database with the students' names
Challenges we ran into
In the beginning, the app generated unauthentic code (for example: "import hogwarts, potions") so I had to modify the prompt to make it generate legitimate code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of my prompt engineering skills, which helped me make this app work as it does. Talking to AIs is truly an art in itself.
What we learned
I learned how easy it is to build an app on PartyRock, which is both exciting and scary at the same time.
What's next for Fandom Coding Tutor
I wish to build this app outside of PartyRock one day, as my AI/ML and web developement skills improve.
