Inspiration
Most families have years of photos, videos, and old scanned documents scattered across hard drives in complete chaos. Finding one specific afternoon usually means endless clicking through poorly named folders. We wanted a tool that lets you just talk to your storage like a person who remembers where everything is.
What it does
FamilyTime Capsule is a local AI skill for UGREEN AI NAS. It listens to a description of a memory, searches your folders for matching photos, videos, and documents, reads scanned letters to pull out key facts, and shows you a clean timeline preview. Once you confirm, it creates a themed album on your device. Everything stays private, with no cloud uploads and no changes to your original files.
How we built it
We used Uliya’s skill structure, combining a Markdown workflow with built-in local capabilities. The logic runs step-by-step: it parses your request, searches authorized files and videos, reads documents for context, and waits for your confirmation before creating any album.
Challenges we ran into
Keeping the skill safe and predictable was the hardest part. We had to make sure it never guesses document contents, never touches original files, and stops immediately if no matching files are found instead of filling an album with random media.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a practical tool that solves a real clutter problem without requiring cloud storage or giving up privacy. The interaction feels straightforward and keeps the user in control at every step.
What we learned
Working with local NAS environments taught us how much can be done with clean logic and built-in features when you don't rely on external third-party servers.
What's next for FamilyTime Capsule
For the final round, we plan to test the skill directly on the hardware, fine-tune text and photo recognition based on real indexing, and polish the workflow for daily use.
