Inspiration
Families often keep important documents across many folders, scans, and duplicate files. When documents are suddenly needed for travel, relocation, school, insurance, or an emergency, it can be difficult to know what exists, what is missing, and where everything is stored.
What it does
Family Readiness Vault is a privacy-first UGREEN NAS skill that reviews a user-selected family archive and creates a structured readiness report. It can identify document categories, detect duplicates, extract important details, use OCR for scanned documents, highlight unreadable items, and show possible gaps based on a user-defined checklist.
How I built it
I designed the skill as an orchestration workflow using UGREEN’s supported NAS experts. The workflow first inventories the selected folder, then analyzes documents and scanned images, verifies findings against the original files, and optionally saves a final report after user approval.
The original files remain unchanged. The skill is designed to avoid guessing when information cannot be verified.
What I learned
The biggest lesson was that useful AI on a NAS should not simply summarize files. It should coordinate specialized capabilities while preserving privacy, traceability, and user control.
Challenges
The main challenge was designing a useful workflow without relying on unsupported commands or external services. The initial skill was validated with the official UGREEN Skill Creation Tool and passed its static checker with zero errors and zero warnings.
What’s next
If selected as a finalist, I will test the skill on the provided UGREEN AI NAS, validate document and OCR workflows with realistic sample archives, improve edge-case handling, and prepare the final demonstration.
