Inspiration

Family Quiz Arena is a local, living-room quiz where every team gets a spotlight. The structure is intentionally simple: take turns, choose an answer, reveal the result, and keep a visible score. A TV-first presentation makes the activity shared rather than putting one player behind a phone or laptop.

What it does

The game supports two to four teams, with names such as Team 1 and Team 2 and controls to add or remove teams within that range. Each turn presents a broad set of original general-knowledge questions, including science, geography, language, animals, and everyday facts. A player selects one answer, locks it with Reveal, and receives immediate feedback; a correct answer adds 10 points. Turns advance around the teams and rounds advance after a full team cycle. New game resets scores and question flow, while local persistence and Reset saved data keep state under household control.

How we built it

The application is bundled HTML/CSS/JavaScript inside a native Java Android WebView host for Fire OS. app.js manages the question bank, teams, turn order, scoring, reveal state, history, and localStorage; domain.js contains score, turn, round, and state-validation rules. The CSS uses large high-contrast controls, visible focus, and no hover dependency for D-pad/keyboard operation. All assets and content are offline; there are no accounts, network calls, analytics, cloud services, external assets, microphones, or cameras. The Android target is Fire OS Android (minimum API 28, Fire OS 7 or newer), not Vega OS.

What we learned

Keeping scoring and turn progression in small pure functions makes the social rules easy to inspect. Validating that team and score arrays match also prevents a damaged saved game from producing an inconsistent board.

Challenges

A family game needs feedback that is immediate but not confusing: selection, reveal, correctness, score, and next-team ownership each need clear states. Supporting both two-team and four-team games adds edge cases around turn wrapping and round numbering.

Verification and next steps

Node domain tests and desktop Chromium interaction flows were executed, along with local Android package/signature checks. There was no physical Fire OS testing, so WebView performance, remote behavior, VoiceView, and device-specific scaling remain unverified. Browser preview images and the silent preview video are local previews, not physical screenshots or submission video. This entrant-review draft was produced with AI assistance; the entrant must review source, rights, eligibility, and claims. The submission has not been uploaded. Next steps are Fire TV hardware testing, family accessibility/playtesting, and an entrant-recorded demonstration.
