Inspiration
Me and my wife record our day to day expenses on an application. This helps us keep a check on what we are spending. There is always risk of exposure of our personal financial details. When i read about Web5, i decided to build this for myself. This gives us control of our personal data.
Learnings
Even though i am still learning new bits about Web5 everyday but i feel this is an interesting space. A user has control of what data should be shared. Most importantly, my data cannot be read/saved/sold by an entity/company. This makes me feel safe.
About the Project
The project was built using NextJS and hosted on GitHub pages. DID is generated when a user opens the URL. This is used to create new family groups and request addition of users in family groups. It is also used to log user wise expenses.
Challenges faced
I faced 3 mainly challenges while building this project:
- When a new member is added, i was able to update the family group details but couldn't send the new group details to others. I had to delete the old group and write the updated details on DWN.
- I was unable to share historical expenses details with the new member. I had to rewrite the entire history of expenses on Admin's DWN and then send to the members.
- During development, i got frequent errors like "NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource", "Signing key not found". I am still working on this.
