Inspiration
We were inspired by everyday domestic chaos — the small, silly things that somehow cause massive arguments. We turned those into gameplay mechanics
What it does
Family Chaos is a timed browser game where you play as a family member trying to perform annoying actions without getting caught. The longer you keep those actions active, the more points you earn.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build a fully interactive frontend with clickable elements, timers, state toggles, and randomized "check-ins" from other characters. Game logic was designed to be modular and scalable.
Challenges we ran into
- Creating a smooth and reactive interaction model for toggling actions
- Balancing randomness (surprise checks) with fairness
- Designing intuitive placeholders for later asset replacement
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Fully working 30-second gameplay loop
- Clean state handling for each character’s actions
- Flexible design ready for custom assets and expansions
- Audio
What we learned
- Simulating simple emotional dynamics can be surprisingly engaging
- Timing and risk/reward mechanics add a lot of depth to very simple actions
- Humor is a powerful game mechanic when paired with solid interaction
What's next for Family Chaos
- Adding real visuals and animations
- Multiplayer mode (family vs. family?)
- Leaderboards for the most "chaotic" players
