We are both big foodies. We want to know what trending flavors that customers are thinking about the restaurant's dishes. The five basic flavors are Sweet, Sour, Bitter, Salty and Spicy. Culinary masterpieces are generated by perfectly using the balances and enhances between these flavors.
Our FlavorSavor Web-app utilizes the dataset of Yelp Dataset Challenge (mainly the business and reviews data) and shows all restaurants around you on Google Map. All pins are colored by the most trending flavors mentioned by customers. That is, dark purple pin - Sweet, green pin - Sour, greyish blue pin - Bitter, yellow pin - Salty and red pin - Spicy.
When you click on the pin, a pop-up window will show a hybrid bar chart of the statistics in aspects of the number of times each flavor has been mentioned, the number of reviews that contain each flavor, the number of useful votes that these reviews have got, the number of tips that contain each flavor, the number of likes that these tips have got, and finally the average ratings based on the reviews.
Everyone who is a flavor savor will be happy to use this. This project is a great combination of Data Analysis, Data Visualization and Food Science, which is resulted in a very useful Data Science project.
Further researches could be done in the aspects of menu items and the food ingredients corresponding to them, so that we could make better food recommendation systems based on trending flavors of restaurants and associate that information with people's preferences of food.
