📰 Fake News Detection System
🚀 About the Project
Fake news has become one of the biggest challenges in today's digital world. Social media platforms allow information to spread rapidly, making it difficult for users to distinguish between authentic and misleading content. This inspired us to develop an AI-powered Fake News Detection System that helps users verify the credibility of news articles before sharing or trusting them.
Our solution uses Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to analyze the textual content of a news article and classify it as Real or Fake. The application provides a simple and user-friendly interface where users can paste news text and receive an instant prediction with confidence.
💡 Inspiration
We were inspired by the growing impact of misinformation on society, including its effects on public health, elections, and social harmony. We wanted to create a practical solution that empowers users to make informed decisions and promotes responsible information sharing.
🛠️ How We Built It
The project was developed using:
- Python for the backend logic
- Flask for the web application
- Scikit-learn for Machine Learning model development
- Natural Language Processing (NLP) for text preprocessing and feature extraction
- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend
- SQLite for storing application data
The workflow includes data preprocessing, text vectorization using TF-IDF, training a classification model, evaluating its performance, and integrating the trained model into a Flask web application for real-time predictions.
📚 What We Learned
Through this project, we gained practical experience in:
- Machine Learning model development
- Natural Language Processing techniques
- Text preprocessing and feature engineering
- Flask web application development
- Model integration and deployment
- Building user-friendly AI applications
⚡ Challenges We Faced
Some of the major challenges included:
- Cleaning and preprocessing noisy text data.
- Selecting the most suitable Machine Learning algorithm.
- Reducing false predictions while maintaining good accuracy.
- Integrating the trained model with the web application for real-time inference.
- Designing an intuitive and responsive user interface.
🌍 Impact
Our project aims to reduce the spread of misinformation by enabling users to verify news articles quickly and efficiently. We believe this solution can contribute to building a more informed and trustworthy digital ecosystem.
