Fake Review Detection System
The Fake Review Detection System is an AI-powered web application developed to address the growing problem of fraudulent and misleading reviews on e-commerce platforms. Fake reviews often influence customer decisions, damage the credibility of online marketplaces, and create unfair competition among businesses. This project aims to improve trust in digital commerce by automatically identifying suspicious reviews using Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
The system analyzes the textual content of a review by performing preprocessing techniques such as text cleaning, tokenization, stop-word removal, and normalization. It then extracts meaningful linguistic and semantic features and passes them to a trained machine learning model, which predicts whether the review is likely to be genuine or fake. The prediction is presented through a simple, user-friendly web interface, allowing users to analyze reviews within seconds.
The application is designed with accessibility and ease of use in mind. Users simply enter or paste a review into the system, and the model returns a prediction along with a confidence score, helping them better understand the reliability of the review. This makes the platform useful for online shoppers, sellers, researchers, and businesses seeking to improve review quality and customer trust.
The project integrates modern web technologies with AI to deliver a fast and responsive experience. It demonstrates the practical application of data preprocessing, machine learning model development, and web deployment in solving a real-world problem. Beyond detecting fake reviews, the system showcases how AI can be used to promote transparency, reduce misinformation, and create safer digital marketplaces.
In the future, the project can be enhanced by supporting multilingual reviews, detecting AI-generated content, incorporating user behavior and reviewer history, integrating transformer-based language models such as BERT, and providing browser extensions or APIs that allow real-time review verification across multiple e-commerce platforms.
