Inspiration
Increase in the number of social media scams through fake accounts.
What it does
It fetches Instagram profile data from the profile associated with the username entered and then predicts whether it is a fake or real profile.
How we built it
We wrote the code using Python and used instaloader to access the profile data directly from Instagram, with the user only having to enter a username. We then used dash in our code to create the webpage, which handles the user i/o part of the program.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenges we encountered were working with instaloader and dash for the first time. Because of this, it took us some time to figure out how to implement our ideas properly in our code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of being able to do as much as we've done in such a short amount of time with a small team.
What we learned
We learned new things, such as connecting our code with online websites to get data directly from them. We also learned about machine learning models and how to use and implement them in a project.
What's next for Fake Account Detection on Instagram
We would like to be able to have this program access more account information, such as posts, comments, and stories, so that it can make more accurate predictions about the authenticity of accounts online.
