Inspiration

The inspiration for Faith came from a horror story—literally. We stumbled upon an article revealing the nightmare of “haunted” domains: websites doomed by shady pasts with spammy links, sketchy emails, and even digital curses that led them straight to Google’s bad side. Imagine launching your dream site only to discover it's like moving into a haunted house—your emails bounce, customers can’t find you, and every ad network treats you like you’ve got ghosts in the closet. With Halloween spirit and a touch of humor, Faith was born to help you dodge these “possessed” domains and build a website that’s not just spook-free but safe, SEO-friendly, and totally ghost-proof!

What it does

Faith is your online safety guardian, helping you choose domains that build trust from the start. With our browser extension, Faith lets you check a domain’s history before buying, flagging any “haunted” domains that could hurt your reputation. On our website, simply enter any domain name, and Faith gives you a full analysis of its past—detecting any ghosts like spam, blacklists, or SEO penalties. Going even further, Faith assists you in choosing a business name that’s clean, safe, and memorable. Just describe your business, and we’ll suggest names that aren’t just catchy but free from any dark digital past. Faith is all about securing domains you (and your customers) can trust, building your online presence on a safe, solid foundation.

How we built it

The Faith Engine: At the heart of Faith is our custom-built tool, Faith Engine, powered by GPT-4 it dives deep into the web, combing through data from sources like the Wayback Machine, HosterStats, and other domain history databases. This powerful engine pulls together layers of information to reveal if a domain’s past is cursed with spam, SEO penalties, or malicious content, ensuring your choice is safe and ghost-free.
Frontend in React: Our React-based frontend brings Faith to life with a clean, intuitive, and Halloween-inspired design. Users can easily search, analyze, and explore spooky (or safe) domain histories with an engaging, user-friendly interface.
Chrome Browser Extension: For real-time domain safety checks, we developed a Chrome extension that’s both sleek and vigilant. With it, users receive immediate alerts about a domain’s haunted history while browsing on GoDaddy, making sure you never get caught off guard by cursed domains.
Backend in FastAPI: Our FastAPI backend is the spectral powerhouse supporting Faith’s real-time analysis. Fast, reliable, and secure, this backend processes data efficiently, allowing SpectreScan AI to deliver fast, detailed results on a domain’s history whenever you need it.

Challenges we ran into

Data sourcing was our ultimate challenge—tracking down reliable, high-quality information on a domain’s history felt like summoning ghosts from the digital ether! Adding to the complexity, tools like the Google Transparency Report often fail to provide accurate results, leaving us sifting through a patchwork of inconsistent records and gaps in information. This meant navigating regional variations in data privacy standards and ensuring we compiled a complete “biography” of each domain. However, with Faith Engine as our data-divining tool, we managed to pull these spectral pieces together, creating a comprehensive look into the past of any domain.
