Living in NYC, we noticed that many renters have no clear way to know if the rent they’re paying is fair. Neighborhood rents vary widely, and there’s no simple tool that visualizes rent fairness across ZIP codes. We wanted to create something visual, data-driven, and immediately useful for everyday renters.
We created a Rent Fairness Heatmap using the Zillow Observed Rent Index (ZORI). Our tool allows users to: -Compare individual listings to neighborhood averages -See which areas are overpriced, fairly priced, or underpriced -Explore data interactively on a color-coded map
