Inspiration
The first question that was asked when brainstorming ideas was "What is a challenge we go through?" We're very passionate about improving infrastructure to make it more accessible and affordable to individuals. Especially as Gen-Z students, we prioritize affordability. Enter "Fairfare!"
What it does
We wanted to create a local hub for individuals looking for the most affordable transportation options to get from one place to another. Users can input their departing point and arrival point. Then, results will find and bring together the cheapest options including: scooters, bikes, buses and cabs. It ranks the options from cheapest to expensive. Users can select their preferred mode of transportation based on the estimated price the see and they will be redirected to the official website (example: Uber) to make their final payment!
How we built it
Languages: Python, TypeScript Frameworks: React, Flask Platforms: Render, Docker Cloud Services: MongoDB Atlas Databases: MongoDB Other: Tailwind CSS, Figma (design planning and prototype)
Challenges we ran into
We had a hard time accessing the Uber API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of 3 main things:
- Getting pretty accurate Uber pricing
- Adding last minute front-end changes
- Being able to plan and execute without rushing till deadline :)
What we learned
MongoDB and UX/UI and Human-Centered Design Principles
What's next for Fairfare
Based on scalability, we hope to expand Fairfare's broader service offerings to a more national, and even, international level, to include flights, trains, etc.
