Inspiration

Imagine sitting in class ready to learn, until text lands like a puzzle - linking sounds to letters is sticky, words blur, reading takes longer, and organising thoughts is hard. That is the reality faced by 1 in 10 Australians, with many still undiagnosed. Traditional LMSs were not built for them. The result? Missed concepts, teachers guessing support and anxiety in learning.

What it does

Thus, we have re-engineered the LMS for the dyslexic - the Faire. It comes with additional elements to the traditional platform to enhance their engagement in processing language. This includes having more multisensory features. The new design also help them stay more organised and focused. Most importantly, Faire creates a safer, stigma-free environment where learners can engage without fear and the teachers can see what’s finally working.

How we built it

By first designing our prototype on Figma, we were able to allocate ample amount of time to development. Then, to make the skeleton of our project we employed Softgen AI and chose Next.js to be our framework. We then made manual changes to ensure that our MVP features were being implemented properly and for the websites aesthetics to be up to par with our standards.

Challenges we ran into

Since it was most of the team's first time going into full stack development, we struggled with executing the back end properly through Firebase. In our project, we were able to build the foundational database schema.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are deeply proud of our ability to build an app from ground up within less than 24 hours. We learn more about accessibility tools and empower individuals to learn without barrier.

What we learned

We acknowledge that building full application in 48 hours is deeply intense and required lots of collaboration and expertise from members

What's next for Faire

We aim to fine tune our additional accessibility features and as well fully implementing with backend integration.
