Inspiration

Millions of formerly incarcerated people face discrimination and systemic barriers when trying to re-enter the workforce. Background checks and societal stigma often prevent them from accessing fair employment opportunities, despite their willingness and ability to contribute.

What it does

FairChance is a job platform tailored for individuals with a criminal record. It allows job seekers to create profiles (anonymously if desired), list their skills, and apply to jobs. Employers to post felony-friendly job listings and search for potential candidates.

How we built it

We used: Django (Python) for the backend to handle user authentication, database models (job listings, applications, profiles) and HTML for the frontend.

Challenges we ran into

We had a lot of trouble as it was our first time using either and we spent a lot of time watching youtube tutorials and researching online.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a fully functional prototype with user registration, job listing and building a system that serves a real social purpose and could be adapted for real-world use.
