Fading into Light
Inspiration
The inspiration came from seeing how many people around me are affected by depression, a condition that continues to grow in our complex and demanding world. More and more people feel empty, hopeless, and disconnected from joy. With this song and video, I wanted to offer hope. A reminder that no one is ever truly alone, that there are always reasons to keep going, and that even in darkness, beauty and meaning can be found again.
This project aims to raise awareness that depression is not weakness, but an illness that deserves empathy, understanding, and care. Art can help us see the light again, even when everything feels gray.
What it does
“Fading into Light” is an AI-generated music video that explores the emotional journey from darkness to hope. It reflects the inner world of people struggling with depression, the feeling of emptiness, isolation, and the slow return of light through resilience and connection.
The project aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and offer a message of encouragement: even in the darkest times, there is always a reason to keep going.
How we built it
I started by composing a piece of music inspired by the emotions I’ve witnessed in people close to me who live with depression, combining sadness, vulnerability, and hope. After that, I designed a main character and created a series of AI-generated scenes that visually interpret the lyrics and mood. The images were then animated, refined, and edited in CapCut, aligning movement, rhythm, and light with the song’s emotional progression.
Challenges we ran into
The visual part of the project was created before tools like Nano Banana existed, which made it difficult to keep the character consistent across all scenes. Achieving a harmonious lighting atmosphere and visual continuity throughout the video was another major challenge. Additionally, some scenes did not turn out the way I envisioned them. AI still has its creative limitations, and guiding it toward a specific emotional tone required a lot of patience and experimentation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud of having created a coherent emotional story using AI, combining sound, visuals, and message into one artistic whole. It’s more than a technical experiment; it’s a piece that connects human emotion with artificial creativity. Seeing how deeply people resonated with the video when I first shared it was one of the most meaningful rewards.
What we learned
I learned that creating a truly expressive video can be incredibly time-consuming and that AI, while powerful, still needs human direction to convey authentic feeling. Sometimes you have to think creatively, even “around corners,” to teach AI what you want it to express. I also learned that AI can surprisingly well capture emotion in music, transforming feelings into melody and atmosphere in a deeply moving way.
What's next for Fading into light
Next, I plan to release the song publicly and share the video on YouTube, so more people struggling with depression can find a little spark of hope in it. My goal is to reach those who need to be reminded that they are not alone and that light always returns, even after the darkest night.
