Inspiration
Slaabur believes history matters to everyone and it must be shared and remembered. So on the occasion of New Year, we decide to celebrate history.
What it does
Slaabur allows users to see one random yet interesting event from a year they search for, and create their own personal history logs for which they get personal notification to not forget those precious moments. To better know the challenges and history of our journey to sustainability, we have also included a sustainability timeline.
How we built it
React.js was used to create an interactive frontend for the application. Flask was used as backend framework for building REST APIs to handle sending SMS and scraping data. Axios was used in React.js as an HTTP client to interface with REST APIs built in the Flask backend. Twilio’s Programmable SMS API was used to send SMS when requested by the user or periodically on days specified in user’s personal history log. Auth0 was used for to add authentication and authorization services to your applications and for social login.
Challenges we ran into
The backend fetches data from the web so we had to learn web scraping and ensure right and valid data was delivered.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team was new in React development, but we have successfully accomplished this project with use of it. Using flask api and scraping data from the web and local resources for the website is we belive, our achievement.
What we learned
We learned about teamwork, time management and work sivision among team-members.
What's next for Slaabur
Adding more features for the date selection and customization for the search criterion.
