Inspiration
When I first thought of the theme of agriculture I thought of farming simulators and from there I thought to subvert that idea by making a factory simulator about a far away future where we send plants to terraform a new planet
What it does
It is a game so it should theoretically be enjoyable.
How we built it
This project was built with Godot, a free and open-source game engine. The sprites were produced with Libresprite, a free and open-source app for making pixel art.
Challenges we ran into
The largest problem was the lack of time. Because I went into this as a team of one I didn't have much time to work on this game. Another challenge was the scale of making a factory simulator.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that I was able to make a full conveyor set and that I was able to create a complete if basic game within the time constraints considering the large task of making a factory builder.
What we learned
I learned a lot about time optimization and about how you should choose ideas for hackathons that are achievable in time. I also learned a lot about new Godot APIs in 4.3 that I hadn't used before.
What's next for TerraFactory
If I continue with this project I want to add more depth to the game by adding more things that there are to do. Another goal would be saving and loading the game which is a priority if the game were to become longer.
