Fact Finder

Inspiration

We were inspired by the rise of misinformation, scams, and AI-generated content online. We wanted to build something that helps people—especially elders and young users—spot false information and learn why it's false.

What it does

Fact Finder is a quiz-style game where users decide if a message, headline, or post is real, fake, or biased. After each answer, Gemini AI explains the reasoning and provides educational context. All progress is tracked in MongoDB.

How we built it

We used React for the frontend, MongoDB Atlas for data storage, and the Gemini API for generating explanations. Content includes real and fake examples of scams, news, and social media posts.

Challenges

We had to make sure the AI gave clear and accurate answers while keeping everything easy to understand. We also worked hard to design a simple and friendly user interface for all ages.

What we learned

We learned how to use AI and how to turn fact-checking into a fun game. The more experienced teammate helped teach the beginner how to code, which made the project a great learning experience for both of us.
