Inspiration

I try to keep up with current events, but every time I do, I end up checking 10 different media outlets just to get a rough sense of the truth. It’s annoying, exhausting, and feels like a full-time job. I had this idea about six months ago, but I’m not a developer—I’m a producer/creative in the entertainment industry. I know how to execute ideas, but the tech side felt overwhelming at the time.

Then someone told me about Bolt and this hackathon, and I thought I'd give it a go. It had legs. And I knew if I could build even a rough version, it’d be easier to get real people excited about it. A demo beats a deck every time.

What it does

You can type, paste, or upload a headline or post into FactYou! and it’ll scan news sources across the political spectrum—left, right, center, and international (because America isn’t the center of the universe)—and use AI to analyze it. Then it spits out a snarky, intelligent summary that flags bias, checks for truth, and actually cites its sources. Imagine that.

How we built it

I built it in Bolt while using ChatGPT to decode all the stuff I didn’t know (which was… a lot). But between the two, I was able to turn an abstract idea into a real, working prototype.

Challenges we ran into

Plenty. Many of them stemmed from my own inexperience. Getting APIs to work reliably was tricky. Right now, the app defaults to a demo mode if the live API fails—functional for the hackathon, but ultimately something that will need a solid backend solution to go mainstream.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The fact that this exists at all is a big win. It communicates its purpose clearly, works intuitively, and already has strong branding and identity. With the right team, scaling this up would be straightforward and exciting.

What we learned

I learned the basics of coding, how to use GitHub, and—most importantly—how to turn an idea into a functional MVP. I can now have real, informed conversations with developers, which is a huge leap forward.

What's next for FactYou!

My hope is to attract a technical co-founder or team and scale this thing up properly. The branding is sharp, the idea’s got teeth, and frankly, the internet could use a little FactYou! in the bloodstream. We’re building a home for people across the political spectrum who are tired of being spoon-fed tribal garbage—and who still believe in the lost art of critical thinking and disagreeing without turning into monsters.
