Inspiration
We were inspired to create MediBuddy after experiencing the difficulties in finding healthcare services in our area and even if we did we didn't the knew the price for the tests until we reached the hospital. Realized that there was a lack of information and convenience for patients who needed to access medical facilities and providers according to their budgets.
What it does
MediBuddy is an android app that helps users find healthcare services/facilities available near them. MediBuddy allows users to search for facilities, hospitals, labs, and other medical services based on their location so that the users could make informed decisions as to which Hospital or Facility they should visit.
How we built it
1) The primary programming language we used for building this app is Kotlin.
2) Android Studio (IDE)
3) We used Places API by Google to fetch the facility's co-ordinates which is used to calculate the distance between the User and the Facility.
4) Haversine Formula to Calculate the Distance between Point A and Point B on a Globe (i.e Our Earth)
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we faced while building MediBuddy were:
1) Every now and then we would face bugs when we write the code.
2) For Google Cloud Billing Account in India, Google allows only few particular Banks with specific payment gateways to add as payment and in our case MasterCard Debit Card of SBI so we called our Friend at 3:30 AM last night to ask for his Card Details and he got scared and asked are you guys even real because there are scams going on where the people are using A.I to imitate the voice of closed ones of victims to ask money !🤣
3) Integrating the API and initializing the Places SDK.
4)Testing and debugging the app on different devices and platforms.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a mobile app that solves a Real World Problem with a easy to use and good looking User Interface within such a short time constraints.
Converting a thought to an actual product.
What we learned
We really learned a lot on how a group of people should act like a Team to get the job done. On the technical point of view we learned a lot of things like API Integration, Firebase, Location Services etc. Also we learned some Acting Skills along the way. 🤣
What's next for MediBuddy
1) We further plan to refine it and add more features and hopefully expand it to iOS as well.
2) We also plan to develop a companion WearOS version of the app using Jetpack Compose.
3) Expanding the Hospital Coverage and Availability of the app in the rural regions and countries.
4) Expand the app language to support native languages like Spanish, Arabic, French etc.
5) Of course to increase and check for the Security Implementation of the app.
