Inspiration

A quite common problem is that people could potentially lose their house keys. With facial recognition we can avoid this problem. This technology can be used in other areas such as detecting whether a lorry driver has fallen asleep, which could possibly prevent a catastrophe.

What it does

The Project is supposed to unlock a door using facial recognition via a PiCam or webcam at the top of a door. The Pi is supposed to detect faces, and then take a picture, upon which the image would be send to the central server, where the face authentication is done. Depending on the outcome of the authentication, the door will either unlock or stay in the same state.

Challenges we ran into

During the Project, we ran into the problem of not being able to fully utilise the CVS Library because of the PiCam. Whereas a regular webcam is easy to use, the PiCam was causing trouble left and right. Also, in the first couple of hours, we struggled with broadcasting our app to the network, so we had to start deploying the app at constant intervals.
