Inspiration
We were inspired by the stories of people that realized they had a very rare bill just sitting in their wallets.
What it does
Our site allows users to take a picture and upload bills they own and see if they have collectible traits
How we built it
We built this app using python, flask, html, css, js, opencv, and numpy.
Challenges we ran into
We had challenges on identifying the parts of the bill with unique parts, such as the star. The star couldn't be read like text so we had to create our own identification options.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of identifying the bill face from an image, reading serial number, and comparing parts to other sampled bills to see if they have a feature.
What we learned
We learned Image recognition is hard, especially with such non-uniform objects.
What's next for Face Value
We will add way more identification features, as there are so many niche markets for certain bills like palindromes that we couldn't get to all of them in the time alloted.
