Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project sparked on the way to Pearl Hacks. We departed around 5:00 AM and on the road we noticed the vast amount of truck drivers on the road. We began to ponder on the fact that if we were struggling to stay awake this early in the morning, we couldn't image how the truck drivers must feel. Distracted driving is the most common cause of car accidents and we wanted to think of a solution for distracted drivers to keep their eyes on the road.
What it does
Our project use facial recognition from our raspberry-pi and whenever a face isn't detected a buzzer goes off. For example, if a driver were to fall asleep the buzzer would go off and wake up the driver.
How we built it
We built it using a raspberry-pi with a program openCV which has facial recognition functions.
Challenges we ran into
Not knowing python, command line, ai facial recognition, raspberry-pi. We pivoted a lot because we could not figure out how to use some of the technologies such a reverse image search.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
All the knowledge we gained
What we learned
We learned how facial recognition software works, python, openCV
What's next for Face Off Buzz On
Integrating Face Off Buzz On on a vehicle and figuring out how to only detect the drivers face rather than the passengers as well.
