Inspiration

We got the inspiration to build the platform after realising that many of our friends finds it difficult to set up their own business. Much of the feedback gathered is that the incorporation process is tedious and complicated. We also realized that many of our friends/family members are unaware of the multiple grants avaliable for corporations. When we spoke to a business owner who runs a tuition center, he mentioned that the application for grant during COVID was lengthy and unnecessary, he mentioned that a lot of information that was asked are information that is already online/given when he registered his business.

What it does

When we built the platform, our idea revolves around having a business companion that assist in lengthy application processes. The incorporation and grants application process are such that our platform aims to assist. It aims to lower the amount of repeated information that the user is required to enter. We also hope to utilized that data that the business had entrusted in us to make smart decisions for them. We envision a system that prompts businesses about the grants which they are eligible for. This means that business owner do not have to screen through the grants one by one and check for eligibility. Scalability is also another aspect that we take into account, we hope that our idea can be scaled above and beyond incorporation/grants process. As many businesses have multiple paperwork that needs to be filled, a platform that assist them in such paperwork filling in would be useful

How we built it

Based on our time consideration and team's proficiency with code, we decided to proceed ahead with creating a high fidelity prototype using Figma. We created many frames on Figma in order to incorporate as much functionality as we could to the prototype, and added a lot of prototype effects to ensure that the each frame could redirect to the next frame properly. For this prototype we only focused on creating desktop versions of the wireframe as we expected our user base to mainly be doing setting up business procedures on desktop rather than on mobile. Also , in order to bring out key features like automated form filling feature which is meant to auto complete repeated inputs over different forms, we coded a demo prototype of this feature using Vue JS Framework in order to demonstrate the concept.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into several obstacles during the idea generation phase as we had different views and suggestions for our solution, but we eventually consolidated our views after taking into account which path would enable us to follow the judging rubrics more closely. During development of Figma prototype, it was challenging to ensure that our prototype can still be interactive in some ways hence had to use prototype tools to enable onclick events for instance to direct from a button click to another desired frame. During the code development of the auto form filling feature demonstration , the challenge mainly lied in finding out what was the most time-efficient method to demonstrate our concept across.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to create an wireframe for the platform within the limited time. We managed to built the module for filling up the forms which we are quite excited for. Furthermore, throughout the 2 days, we learnt a lot about the business incorporation process which might prove useful in time to come.

What we learned

Some of the team members are new to Figma and it was interesting to use Figma as part of the design process. The workshop held also gives us a new perspective to the development process. We realized that building and developing an app and platform is no easy task and it would often involve people with different speciality.

What's next for F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

We hope to further develop our design and coding skills so that we can use tech to solve problems.
