After receiving an $80 parking ticket, I was determined to create a program that is able to detect parking police using Computer Vision and automatically pay for additional parking if needed. This program ensures you NEVER receive a ticket ever again.
What it does
This program uses a Dashcam to detect the Red DOTS Truck and calls the ParkMobile API to pay for additional parking if needed.
How we built it
As a business major with only 7 months of coding experience, this was a difficult project. It primarily involved using ImageAI and OpenCV to detect the vehicle and determine if it is a DOTS (Parking Police) Vehicle. If the DOTS truck is detected, the program calls the ParkMobile API to pay for additional parking if expired.
Challenges we ran into
Primarily, the challenge that I ran into was object detection. This was my first time using anything beyond Numpy and Pandas so it was an excellent learning process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As a business major and a non-Computer Science major, I am very proud that I was able to complete this project in the time allotted. I am only 7 months into my Python journey so this was the most difficult project I have completed to date.
What we learned
I learned the OpenCV and ImageAI libraries. I also got more practice using NumPy arrays.
What's next for F.R.I.C.K DOTS
This project has multiple applications and can even be integrated with Tesla's Cameras to prevent tickets.
Another application is selling a Smart DashCam that pays for additional parking automatically for customers.
