Inspiration: Millions of pilgrims comes to Makkah every year to perform Hajj, Many of them lack information about what they are going to experience, and how they should act.
What it does: our solution will allow the pilgrims experience Hajj before performing it, through 3D simulation and virtual reality technology
How we built it: We used wearable optical VR simulation device, along with Unity technology to add the interaction element to the expedience.
Challenges we ran into: Since VR concept is new in the region, we faced a challenge is procuring the devices, building the project from scratch, and find an expert consultant who can help us mentoring.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: we are proud that we've successfully built a pilot for: throwing stones (رمي الجمرات), Tawaf in Haram (الطواف), Sa'e (السعي)
What we learned: This kind of technology requires extensive work on both design and code, it requires a full dedicated team with professional project coordinator to wrap up all the efforts into one consolidated satisfying result.
What's next for F-002 Living Hajj: The next step is mature the work we've started and convert it to near-real complete hajj experience, we also planning to cover more scenarios and places familiar for pilgrims.
Ready plugins used: Steamvr Plugin
Code used during the Hackathon: All the programming code in C# and development in Unity platform
