Local Ann Arbor businesses often have rewards card programs to promote more business and a better shopping experience. However, carrying around a lot of cards can be a hassle. We set out to solve the problem of overfilled wallets and wasteful plastic.
What it does
Our application enables users to ditch clunky wallets by providing a simple method of consolidating gift cards, library cards, etc. into a single application.
How we built it
We built our application using swift, storing data locally to minimize security risks
Challenges we ran into
This was our first time building full application in Swift, so we spent a lot of time learning how to use the language and its syntax. We also put a lot of thought before coding into how to integrate different technologies seamlessly into our product in order to create an application that our users would be comfortable using.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to work together to create a simple, intuitive, and useful product. Additionally, we are proud that we were able work together to learn how to use these technologies in such a short time, and still have a boatload of fun along the way!
What we learned
We learned how to use swift to create a mobile application, but more importantly, we learned to design our product with our end users as our first priority. We designed our product to be simple and accessible, using large buttons, minimal words, and an inviting user interface.
What's next for ezscan
We hope to partner with local businesses to make physical gift cards obsolete and integrate functionality for gift cards as well. It would also be great to be able to test our app with people with disabilities that make it difficult to carry many objects in their wallets.
