Inspiration

Healthy eating always felt like a balancing act between time, money, and knowledge. Personally, I often struggled to connect my goals with real meals—either I didn’t know where to start, or I knew the numbers but couldn’t translate them into a shopping list or recipe. That frustration inspired me to build EZDiet, an app that removes the guesswork and makes eating healthy practical and accessible.

What it does

EZDiet personalizes nutrition by taking in your health goals, budget, location, and dietary needs. For beginners, it works with simple inputs like “lose weight” or “build muscle.” For experienced users, it accepts specific calorie or macro targets. From there, it finds affordable ingredients at nearby stores and generates tailored shopping lists and easy recipes, acting like a nutritionist, shopper, and chef in your pocket.

How we built it

We designed EZDiet with a flexible input system that adapts to both general and advanced users. The app integrates store data based on location, applies filters for budget and dietary restrictions, and then runs a recipe generation engine that pairs available ingredients with goal-aligned meals. On the front end, we focused on a clean, intuitive interface to keep the experience approachable.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was balancing simplicity with customization. We wanted to make the app accessible to users who don’t know exact nutrition numbers, while still serving those who track detailed macros. Another hurdle was mapping budget constraints with store availability and recipe generation without overwhelming the user with too many choices.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that EZDiet bridges the gap between intention and action. It doesn’t just tell users what to eat; it helps them shop smarter and cook healthier within their own budget and lifestyle. Turning a personal struggle into a usable, scalable solution feels like a big win.

What we learned

We learned that accessibility is as important as accuracy. Many people give up on healthy eating because tools are either too vague or too technical. Building EZDiet taught us how important it is to meet users where they are and provide guidance that feels actionable.

What's next for EZDiet

Next, we want to integrate APIs from grocery stores to provide real-time pricing and availability, expand recipe diversity with more cultural cuisines, and refine budget optimization by showing users cost comparisons between nearby stores. Long-term, we envision EZDiet syncing with wearables and fitness apps to provide a truly holistic health companion.
