Teens and young adults often face issues when it comes to managing their finances due to numerous reasons. This issue is faced by many Black communities due to lack of education, lack of access to tools and resources, and poor financial decision-making. Given these challenges, we have been inspired to develop a tool for teenagers and young adults in the Black community and beyond to educate them on financial literacy to allow them to make smarter economic choices in the future.

What it does

EZ Trak is a web app that provides a visual and accessible way to keep track of spending habits and make smart financial decisions.

How we built it

To meet the skill set of the group, we decided to work with Python, HTML, CSS, BootStrap, and JavaScript. We were interested in developing our skills in Python web frameworks. As a result, we decided to create a backend with the Python web framework Flask. In a completely remote environment, we opted for Git for seamless work.

Challenges we ran into

Flask was new for everyone on the team. Many of the bugs we encountered were related to misunderstanding how Flask works. Thankfully, in the end we ended up with a fully functional app.

What we learned

How to use Flask effectively. How to use Git. How to take advantage of reusable code by using Bootstrap. How to make webpages.
