The Idea
When given the opportunity to work with A.I. our group wanted to use it assist in people's daily lives in order to give them easy. As some of our members are Software Engineers; we realized that program development treats accessibility as an after thought to efficiency. Furthermore, we wanted to provide an easy way to make all interfaces easliy usable for people who struggle with reading. EZ Read was created to allow for all internet spaces to be user friendly.
The Building Proccess
The creation portion quickly became more difficult than we thought. Deciding to create a Google Extension allowed you to incorporate our skills in HTML; however, that left us no choice but to code in javascript to have an easier time connecting our front and back end portions. Overall, since our group had little to no experience using javascript we swiftly began researching syntax and projects utilizing simlilar software. Although annoying, we perservered and countiued to work towards completing all of our plans. Adjusting to group work on GitHub was another struggle, constant communication about what has been changed and what has been added or removed was necessary while working on this project.
How it works
So what does EZ Read do? EZ Read allows for users to take a snapshot of any text on their screen and adjust the settings of the text for easier reading. For example people with dyslexia tend to have trouble reading text dense web pages, weird fonts, and low contrast lettering. With EZ Read a person can take a screenshot of some difficulty to read text and change the text settings to fonts, colors, sizing, and spacing which can better help them read the content. They can also use a text-to-speech function which will read out the words they have selected.
The Final Product
Our final product is a Google Chrome Extension. The pop-up provides several different options and editor buttons that is user friendly.
Marketing
Lastly, what does marketing look like? Not only that but how will EZ Read become profitable? EZ Read will be marketed as tool to provide accessibility to others. Since EZ Read takes snapshots of what the users are reading on the Interent we can collect and sell data to businesses who what to see what users are reading on the web. Overall, EZ Read is a great start to creating a completely accessible Internet.
