Inspiration
After discussion amongst ourselves, we realized that the common problem stemming from cooking issues was the lack of time for meal preparation with recipes. So we decided to build a web application that could help filter-in recipes in regards to time intervals for cooking.
What it does
The web application filters in recipes with regard to time intervals for cooking/preparation. Also, there are filters for allergy-free recipes and different places of origin. Furthermore, it allows users to sign-up/login with their own personalized accounts and favorite recipes that the user finds interesting or would like to keep.
How we built it
We used React and NodeJS to create the web application along with recipe APIs to select and filter options for users.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge that we did face was learning the syntax for React, as it was new to many of us in the beginning of the competition. Additionally, we had issues implementing a user authentication system with storing accounts and handling user priority. Unfortunately, we were unable to implement some of the many features we planned to implement due to challenges with understanding the material and it being so new to us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
However, we are proud of the user interface that the web application implements because it took a great deal of effort and time for us to manufacture it into what we envisioned. Also, we are proud of the experience, skills, and knowledge that we gained from participating in this event. Every one of us was glad to participate and learn.
What we learned
We learned many things such as MERN stack and agile development, in addition to improving our own web-app development skills. Additionally, we learned more about how to properly implement back-end processes and produce efficient UI in front-end development.
What's next for EZ-PZ Recipes
What's next is that we plan to further expand our web application and fully complete all of the features that we set out to implement in hopes that we learn more from our project and be able to apply it in the future.
