Inspiration
Often times, children are overlooked when it comes to informing them of their own health. When younger kids are faced with disorders or diseases, there are very limited resources offered to keep them educated about about problems they are facing in their every day life.
What it does
We developed a website platform that is catered towards teaching young kids about different disorders/diseases that they may have to face. This give parents an easy way to teach their kids and an easy-to-read story for kids who have these diseases.
How we built it
We first made customizable slides in Juypter notebook using different packages and overlaying. We used streamlit to make a interactive web application in which they can customize the avatar and get the personalized story.
Challenges we ran into
We had never coded before in anything but simple MATLAB and C, so we were learning a large portion of how we did out project along the way. Additionally, we ran into issues integrating Jupyter Notebook into our python code in StreamLit. There were issues downloading external packages and having them be compatible to our code. Nevertheless, we were able to create functional parts that work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that we were able to create a platform that incorporated so many different software systems that we were initially very unfamiliar with. The overall product was a good compilation of stories that discussed different diseases in simple terms. We are confident that with a tool like this, we can keep many young kids informed of their own health.
What we learned
We gained a lot of exposure to how to use different packages, software systems, and coding languages.
What's next for EZ Health
We want to increase our database/disease, include different age ranges, and create more interactive stories. We'd also love for this platform to be used in classrooms to help children learn about different condition's their peers may have!
