Inspiration

We've seen Home run derby VR Games but what about a bunting VR game.

What it does

Bunting is an important skill needed to be mastered for both baseball and softball players. Being able to efficiently track and absorb the ball's incoming velocity ensures it will land in a zone that will send the other teams fielders into a frenzy. Using only the player's eyes you can bunt ten balls from a pitching machine into the playing field. Different areas on the playing field signify a different score every time a ball is bunted. Any balls that land foul, or outside of the zone receive zero points. Audio feedback is given when the bat has made contact with the ball.

How I built it

Using Oculus, Unity, Blender and C# we created a VR tracking game that only requires the use of the player's head to bunt the ball.

Challenges I ran into

The bat kinematics were the most challenging part.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

That we were able to complete the game within 24 hours.

What I learned

How to design in Unity specifically for a VR set.

What's next for Eyez on the ball

Having the option for the player to bunt either left or right handed, instead of just right handed.
