Inspiration

I wanted to tell a story from the inside. The point of view of a bull who grows up hearing a single idea: “you exist for our entertainment.” I wanted to show the gap between what humans say is “culture” and what the animal experiences. No exaggeration. No decorative pain. Just confusion, fear, pressure and obedience. This project started as a technical test and became a personal statement.

What the project is about

The film follows the bull from the stable to the field, from the promise of freedom to the moment he steps into the arena. It shows how he is handled, prepared, restrained and pushed into a role he never chose. The viewer sees the world through his eyes. When the crowd cheers, he realises what was hidden behind the word purpose. The film ends in a symbolic escape: a field he never reached in life, but one he holds in his mind.

How I built it

I used a hybrid workflow. I started with images generated from my own style presets. From there I produced short animated sequences with tools that specialise in motion and POV simulation. I used reference clips to lock the tone and lighting. For voice, I recorded a draft and then rebuilt it with a voice model, keeping a natural pace and emotional weight. Editing was done in short cycles to keep consistency between shots, as each tool produces a slightly different texture.

Challenges I ran into

Keeping the bull’s point of view consistent across multiple clips. Avoiding unrealistic or sensational scenes. Controlling motion so the viewer feels the tension without feeling lost. Maintaining emotional honesty without falling into sentimentality or gore images. Finding a balance between realism, restraint, and impact.

Accomplishments that i'm proud of

I managed to build a full narrative from the bull’s point of view without using shock or graphic content. The film stays grounded in what actually happens around the animal. The emotional weight comes from honesty, not exaggeration. I’m proud of how consistent the POV feels, even with different AI tools generating different textures. I’m proud of the voiceover, which stays controlled and human. And above all, I’m proud of showing a reality that is often hidden behind words like “culture” and “tradition”. The film delivers the truth without turning it into a spectacle again.

What we learned

Working with AI video is still unpredictable. POV shots are difficult to control, especially if we are trying to mimic an animal's POV Matching the animal’s height, movement and breathing across multiple tools takes time. I learned how much a small change in prompt structure can shift the emotion of a shot. I also learned that this topic demands care. The goal was never to show graphic pain. The goal was to show the truth behind the spectacle without exploiting it again.

What's next for EYE OF THE BULL

I plan to create a longer version focused on education and awareness, using real data for informative purposes. I want to build new POV scenes showing the journey from birth to the arena with even more precision. I may expand the project into a short series using AI tools that allow better motion consistency and character tracking. I want to collaborate with organisations that work against bullfighting, offering the project as a communication piece. I will also test new versions of the film in Portuguese and Spanish for audiences directly affected by this topic. The goal is simple: use AI film to question a practice that still harms animals in the name of entertainment.
