The number of deaths and injuries that occur due to distracted driving is what inspired us to come up with a solution to the problem.
What it does
It tracks user's eyes, face, mouth and some other characteristics to determine if the user is focused or distracted while behind the wheels. If the driver is distracted, it sends a voice feedbacks alerting the driver to focus.
How we built it
We used XBox Kinect (V2) to track driver's face and programmed it using C#, .NET and WPF along with Microsoft Kinect SDK.
Challenges we ran into
We were not familiar with C# at all and had never used the Kinect SDK so getting started was a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to track driver's face, eye and mouth movements accurately and were able to provide proper audio feedback to alert the user. In other words, we got it to work exactly how we had expected.
What we learned
We learned how to program in C# (.NET) and learn a lot about how to use Kinect SDK.
What's next for Eye Drive
We want to learn more about Image processing and implement that and determine when user's hands are on steering wheel or not.
