On analysis we found certain problems that the blind may face in day to day life. Also we observed that most of them could be overcome by easy hacks.

The major problems that the blind face are listed below:

  1. Navigation on roads while walking.
  2. Not being able to read is a big obstruction in their path of learning.
  3. A blind person is unable to track his own location if he is at a remote place or gets lost somewhere.
  4. When he is alone and there is an emergency or any need of help then the person sometimes is not able to get immediate help.
  5. He is not able to know which person is calling him. We have proposed a fully audio enabled app that can incorporate the following features: Opens up on shaking with the use of accelerometer. Then the person would hear an audio of a menu that allows him to access the various functionalities of the app. Through speech to text conversion we could take input from him and hence come to know whatever option he chooses. Then according to the option spoken, that option would be activated. Options of the menu would be as follows: Listening to audio of text read from an image Notifying friends for help Tracking your location Adding a new contact through speech to text conversion Recognizing a phone-caller We have worked upon most of the features of the app. We were able to make the SMS service that the blind person can use to notify his nearest help in need of emergency, using the speech to text feature we were able to take audio inputs from the person and convert it to text and take action according to the choice of the person. We have also tried to make the location tracker for the user.

In the given limited time we were able to code the above mentioned features separately, the integration for the same and one or two features are yet to be done. Our app is really cost effective and doesn’t require any expensive sensors. It totally depends on the Artificial Intelligence of the smartphone. This is a completely feasible app that is a boon for the blind.
